While the motives of the people in the video may be suspect, the issue of Net Neutrality is very real and should be taken seriously. The idea is that your internet provider would create “packages” of websites and charge variable fees. Kind of like cable TV, you’d have a basic plan and then premium plans. This would give a huge advantage to websites that get to be in the “basic” plan.
My hope is that the market would prevent this from happening. It would just take one major provider to bring it all down. Provider A charges X amount/month and gives you a limited number of sites. Provider B charges the same and gives you access to everything. Which do you choose?
I don’t know how much the market has as much to do with it as stinky ‘ole politics. If you want to keep the good old fashioned internet that we’ve all grown to love, go here and sign a petition http://www.savetheinternet.com/
I can’t imagine life without spastic cat videos, boing boing TV, and TED.

Oh, and by the way. The title of this post sent a pang through my heart.
This site and I have been through a lot together. I’d be lost without her!
