I know that Denis and Michelle are taking care of tracking this, but I thought I would create a post so people can share their info as well:
Dawn and I will be traveling on Continental Airlines from Richmond to Newark to London (LHR) on the 21st of June. We arrive on the 22nd, and then need to make it over to Stansted airport (STN) for our Ryan Air flight into Aarhus(AAR) arriving at 22:20. (10:20PM)
We are staying at the Cab Inn Sunday through Saturday the 28th (our 5th wedding anniversary BTW)
We fly out on Ryan air from Aarhus at 14:15 (2:15PM) and back into London where we need to spend the night. We fly back from Gatwick (LGW) on the 29th at 11:30AM to Newark and then transfer to Richmond, VA.
Anyone on any of the same flights? Hotel?
How dressy is the wedding/reception going to be? Dawn and I can accommodate formal all the way down to casual, just trying to blend in.
When we found out about the trip last year, Dawn’s first question was “what is there to drink over there?” So I’ll throw that question out there as well. She is still feeding with Gavin, so I’m sure she is looking forward to some serious mass consumption of alcohol.
Do we need bathing suits?
Do we need to bring anything special besides ourselves?
I know we are closer than those on the West coast, but we really miss you all, we are SO looking forward to this trip, we even got a new camera. Let’s get the ball rolling on this topic, so we can all get excited.
and for the awww so cute factor……

Yeah!!!!
Yes bring bathing suits though the likelihood that it will be warm enough to swim is 50/50. Weather in Denmark in June can easily range from 60 degrees to 75 or 80. We have put in a request for 80 but I recommend that you also bring a sweater and wind breaker!! Dress for a party. Most of the men in my family will be in tuxedos and the rest will be in suit and tie. For the girls anything from cocktail dresses to floor length dresses is completly appropriate. Hat and gloves would be fun if you are in a dress up mood ( Meghan, the pink superhat could totally be pulled off!)
Things to drink? Anything you can find here plus lots of danish schnapps. You should also ask for a fishermans friend or a black pig. two vodka infused drinks that are popular in danish clubs.
So excited to see you guys.
Love Michelle

I just talked to Michelle about travel - she’s so on top of things! We’re getting a suite at Hotel Phillipe and looking for 2 people to join us. We’ll arrive in Hamburg on Sunday morning, June 22nd, and are leaving there on July 1st. We’ll spend a couple of days after the wedding with our friends Andreas and Mariah.
We’ll either take the train or drive up to Arhus on Monday when we know who all is coming from Hamburg. It may be cheaper to get a van and drive up if there are enough of you.
So let us know if you want to share a room. If you’re flying into Hamburg, let us know so we can look into a car.
Thanks,
-Neel
May 22nd, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Two “Dawns” in such close proximity? Can we handle it? We are flying in to Aarhus on Monday around 3:30 and leaving on Sunday morning.
Dawn (my Dawn) is currently on the hunt for a dress and I’m attempting to lose a little to get into my dark suit. Dammit.
I just ordered my new camera, which will be my first DSLR, I’m very excited to take it out for a spin and get used to it before the wedding.
Counting the days. :)
May 22nd, 2008 at 3:53 pm
We finally bought our tickets!! Ray and Drew will be traveling with us. Thank goodness, because I will need the extra hands to help with Katherine. We go JFK to London to Oslo to Arhus arriving around 730pm on Monday. We leave very early Sunday morning from Arthus to Copenhagen to Helsinki to JFK. Wow, talk about going international. Now for the fun part of packing and remembering everything I need for me and the baby. Michelle has been an amazing helper with the logistics of Katherine. I can’t wait for you west coasters to meet Katherine. See ya’ll in a month!!!

San Francisco -> Chicago -> Copenhagen -> Aarhus -> Copenhagen -> Munich -> San Francisco
Ahh, the Cole in me just smiled.
May 22nd, 2008 at 5:42 pm
I went for a more direct route - Newark to Copenhagen then a hop to Aarhus. I’ll arrive on Sunday morning at 10:30 and I’m leaving at 10:30 am on SATURDAY the 28th. Man, I’m gonna pass out on the trip back! I’m looking for roommates since Gideon is not coming. Its very sad. There is some talk of a girls room: Me, Nicole, Tobi & ?
May 23rd, 2008 at 5:22 am
Annie or Irene? I spoke with Annie yesterday, she is working on flight stuff still so it is not for sure yet. Irene also has not bought her tickets yet but she is another possibility.
May 26th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
Aaron, which DSLR did you get? What lens? 50mm 1.8 ?
Have a great time at the wedding everyone!
May 26th, 2008 at 8:33 pm
Caren, I got (am getting, it’s probably somewhere on I-80 in Nebraska, right now) the Nikon D80 with a 18-135mm AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens.
May 27th, 2008 at 6:29 am
d-80? everyone I know owns a d-3000.
May 27th, 2008 at 8:59 am
*drool*
May 27th, 2008 at 9:53 am
See? The camera gear-heads here understand. Lester, talk to your Dad. He’s probably got the D3000 on special order. I’m looking forward to getting some tips from him at the wedding.
May 27th, 2008 at 1:32 pm
Hey….let’s get this topic back on track, don’t hijack this thread, start a new one….
May 27th, 2008 at 2:26 pm
drool. good choice aaron, it’s the best camera for the money. and it’s not a canon, good move!
May 28th, 2008 at 1:03 am
Caren,
Does your dad still sling MG parts? We just pulled ours out of storage and need a crapload of stuff.
May 28th, 2008 at 1:04 am
Oh, and I assure you, in some cosmic way, our old MG has something to do with Denmark travel. It may take some time to find a connection, but rest assured, it is there.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:23 am
OK it’s the d-300. But still I know like 3 people that own one.
The D-80? is that like stereo sound?
MG parts. I need Hella lights for Jen.
May 28th, 2008 at 9:24 am
Oh, I almost forgot………Shut up Norm
May 28th, 2008 at 10:22 am
I totally regret writing this and even more so posting it.
“actually norm’s right”
Start a new thread on your new camera and how cool it will be in Denmark until Dad shows up, and disses you for being late to teh game.
So where you stayin’?
Why are my parents not showing up until half way through the week?
starting to think, my family only kinda likes me.
Glad I have friends like AZF2K.
May 28th, 2008 at 10:35 am
Thanks Denis for sticking with me on this one….
Lester, I have some KC Daylighters for sale….
May 28th, 2008 at 10:38 am
BTW Denis,
did you mention to your parents that even I’m going to be there for the whole week? I’m sure they will change their mind for sure….
June 2nd, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Hay Aaron,
where are you staying?
-Norm
June 2nd, 2008 at 2:27 pm
We are staying at Michelle’s hairdresser’s house. I’m looking to get some highlights before the ceremony.
I don’t know the location yet.
You? You want it on the map?
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:04 pm
I want to know where Uncle Peter lives. I don’t need an exact location on the map but a general area may be nice.
Do we need an adapter and converter for electrical items? I know they exist for Northern Europe and Europe. Michelle, any advice.
I’m getting very excited about the trip. Less than three weeks to go. I’m actually looking foward to the packing. I get to make lists and check them off, and demonstrate my super mom skills. I love you all and cheers to the Wedding of the Decade!!! (or was it Century?)
June 2nd, 2008 at 3:42 pm
I second the question about adapters.
June 4th, 2008 at 10:55 am
ok, yes you need adapters.
electronics with their own little box on the cord (think computer and video cameras) help in the conversion process. Hairdryers will blow out, so leave them. If you go to a good electronics store they will know which converter you should use. I don’t recall what the outlets look like other then they are round.
IDK where specific people live so maybe Michelle can help.
June 6th, 2008 at 3:05 pm
Hi all,
So excited. So Plugs in DK are two round pegs about the size of matchsticks (but round). If the electrical equipment you are bringing does not have a box on the wire you have to make sure you get a converter that not only meets the plug but also the 220 voltage conversion.
I had flames coming out of my hairdryer in France and killed another one in DK because I didn’t have a current converter. Good luck!!!
Love you all. I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am that you are making the journey. I hope the trip exceeds your expectations!
Love,
Michelle
June 8th, 2008 at 6:19 am
Hey all. It is very odd. I posted a response to this question and it still hasn’t shown up. I screwed something up.
As far as plugs go the Danish plug is two round stick about the diameter of a match (if it was round!). You may also need a voltage converter. Denmark runs on 230V. Like Denis said we havn’t had problems with the electronics but I have burnt out two hairdryers in trying to figure this out. Finally bought a international hairdryer that can handle the voltage. Check with Brookstone. They seem to have a lot of travel gear.
So excited to see you guys.

June 8th, 2008 at 7:10 am
Brookstone? May I reccommmend REI.com for all of your travel needs? I suggest the Travel Smart TS 2000 international (item# 704194)converter/adapter. For $39.95 it does wattage as well as a variety of converter plugs. We also sell assorted converter plugs including the ones for northern Europe. We have the full line of Eagle Creek luggage and accesories, as well as assorted travel clothing, neck wallets, sunscreens, etc. of course if you need to shoot Jen or I an e-amil to help….
June 8th, 2008 at 7:11 am
P.S. daylighters? Norm we should talk.
June 8th, 2008 at 10:47 am
And the best part is that you can return it all when you get back from Denmark. Denis says so.
June 8th, 2008 at 3:51 pm
Dont forget that the hotels usually have hairdryers!!
June 9th, 2008 at 8:34 am
I do not need a hairdryer & neither do you.
Just don’t return them to West Hartford.
June 11th, 2008 at 7:17 am
What kind of weather am I packing for? Looked at site that said the average June temperature is 15C (about 60F) . That’s kind of chilly.
June 11th, 2008 at 7:50 am
Sounds like SF weather. Maybe leather chaps are in order?
June 11th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
No one wants to know about your dirty little secrets, dear. ;^)
June 11th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
SF weather has been AMAZING for the past week. I know what you’re getting at Lester, but it’s been nothing but clear skies, highs in the 70s, and cool breezes.
June 12th, 2008 at 9:39 am
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/extended/DAXX0003
Weather for next week looks like high 60’s low 70’s. I cant see a forecast the the actual wedding week yet. But Denis says sunny and beautiful. A good rule of thumb is to treat it like SF, make sure you have a wind breaker and a pair of jeans.
June 12th, 2008 at 9:42 am
http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/businesstraveler/extended/DAXX0003
Alright, trying this again.
Weather in Denmark for next week is expected to be in the high 60s and low 70s. Cant see the weather for the following week yet, but we have requested sunny and beautiful. Use the SF rule for packing. Make sure you bring a wind breaker, jeans and maybe even a long sleeved shirt.
June 12th, 2008 at 11:31 am
Yeah, Here in the cold northeast. Its been in the 90’s and beautiful. The other night Michelle, Nichole, and I sat around as a thunderstorm rolled through, it was awesome to watch and listen. After the rains it cooled off a bit but this Spring has just been off the hook beautiful. oh the green.
Neel and Meghan it will be so nice when you’re living here and we can all enjoy the music in the park.
/don’t wanna know about Lester’s dirty secrets.
//More then likely they would make Ray cry.
// and Denis cringe ;)
June 13th, 2008 at 6:06 am
Quick question. We are having to pack light for the flight into Aarhus, which means no garment bag. So I’ll have to stuff my suit into my normal luggage. This may sound stupid, but are there Dry Cleaners out there? Someplace I can have the suit taken to to get pressed?
We leave in a week….I’m getting excited…..
June 13th, 2008 at 7:01 am
Yeah there will be cleaners.
June 15th, 2008 at 4:29 pm

/The snazzle berries taste like snazzle berry!!
June 16th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
I thought it was snozberries taste like snozberries?
Anyway, Dawn and I have officially started packing for the trip. Looks like Rain in in the forecast some days next week. We leave on Saturday….whoo hooo!!!!!
June 16th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
I think it is snozberries too. I’ll have to check. I started laying out Katherine’s clothes today. i’m getting really excited too. Don’t freak out D…we are here to help and support you. Remember you have the magic wand for the next 2 weeks. Name it and will make it happen.
/It always goes wrong at the dessert.
June 17th, 2008 at 6:20 am
ohh yeah, I suggest that those of you who have some “Anxiety” about flying stop into the Dr’s to get an RX for the flight. maybe a mother’s little helper, or something new fangled. anyway is just a recommendation, if you have those concerns on long flights.
/acknowlegdes that the quote maybe wrong but apparently you all get the reference.
//really looks forward to the maple syrup chugging contests between Neel and Drew.
///I don’t want a liter of soda
June 17th, 2008 at 6:19 pm
I picked up some “Airborne” for our group. Lester often gets sick after flying so I hope this will help. Target sells a generic for $3.44, almost half the price of the name brand and the ingredients are the same. Also, Lester’s co-worker highly recommended the “No Jet-Lag”. We’ve never tried it but got some anyway. You can get it at REI for $11.50 (32 tablets enough for 50 hours of flying) or go to http://www.nojetlag.com for other retailers.
June 18th, 2008 at 4:56 am
Looks like we are out of luck for the ‘No Jet-Lag’ nothing near us stocks it.
June 19th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
I’ve had some success from Trader Joe’s Homeopathic Jetlag Remedy. I know I sound like a wanker saying that, but someone recommended it to me a long time a go and to my surprise it worked.
My packing list: travel clothing steamer, voltage converter, TJ’s Jetlag, Beano and a mother’s helpers…
June 19th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
There are some excellent alternatives to all the homeopathic remedies for jetlag and sleeping on planes. We’ll just have to remember back to the days….
I can’t believe it, but its cheaper to rent a car and pay for gas than take a train roundtrip from Hamburg. Autobahn, baby. We depart in less than 16 hours…
-Neel
June 19th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
We leave in 3 1/2 hours. Don’t know if we are going to sleep any!! I guess we can sleep when we get old. I don’t think I can express in words how excited I am that you guys are all joining us.
SO EXCITED!!!!!
June 22nd, 2008 at 8:17 am
It was a long trip - almost 25 hours - to get from LAX to Hamburg. But Meghan Kelley and happy anticipation make for excellent travel companions, and this rainy afternoon in Northwestern Germany is one of the sunniest days one can wish for!
We started with a 10:30p redeye from LAX to Boston. Landing at 7am, we bought an all-day “T” pass and headed off to the subway for breakfast and adventure.
We ended up in a little Harvard Square cafe, and while eating breakfast, thought it would be cool to find the site of the NPR show “Cartalk with Click & Clack the tappet brothers.”. I’ve been listening to it since I was a kid, and Meghan and I have spent many a weekend morning wakeing to their infectious Bostonian laughter. A quick Wiki search revealed we were right across the street. After a few obligatory pictures, we headed wandered into the “old yard” section of Harvard’s campus to lay in the grass. Then, we took a 2 mile cab ride to “Good Times Garage” which is their shop, where we chatted up some of the Saturday staff and admired a magestic 52 Mercades limo.
It was early afternoon by then, so we headed off by bus and subway to the Harbor for chowder and beer before heading back to the airport. I slept 6 of the 7 hour flight to Germany, and we made our way to our friends apartment to Hamburg by 9.
So far, we’ve had a pleasant stroll and brunch, and now we’re headed to a big festival where Sigor Ros and Radiohead are playing tonight. Our friend Andreas works for the promtor, so this is a very special treat!
All this, and we haven’t even met up with the clan. What a wonderful week lies ahead, I can barely control my excitment!
Great vibes, big love,
Neel
June 22nd, 2008 at 10:45 pm
Okay back to reality. In Hamburg, picking up rental car, just realized:
uh, where am I driving to? Should we just go to the town center and start asking for Jebediah or any known sharters from foreign lands?
June 23rd, 2008 at 1:26 am
Ask for the canal area. The hotel is next to the canal. Right next to a church.
Dawn and I made it in last night with no problems. We spent the day in London. Went on a walking tour and had some fish & chips. Good Stuff. Dawn didn’t believe me when I pointed to Big Ben and said ‘look there’s Big Ben’
Good times are ahead……
June 23rd, 2008 at 7:24 am
Did you get to say “Look Dawn, there’s Big Ben,Parliment” over and over again?
Thanks for the rescue, Michelle called us. Meghan’s been cruisin over 100 in the rain on the autobahn, we should be there in no time!
