How To Post A Link

I’d like to start posting links directly to the site rather than use Del.icio.us so that others can comment.

Commenting really is the lifeblood of this site and not being able to do that with the links seems like a wasted opportunity.

So here’s what I suggest (feel free to improvise).

The long way

1. Find something interesting.
2. Copy the URL from your address bar. (ie, http://www.somethinginteresting.com/spacemonkeysatemypants.html)
3. Come to AZF2K and click on “Post”
4. Create a title for the link (ie. Space Monkeys Ate My Pants)
5. In the “Post section, repeat that same title and make it linkable by highlighting the text, pressing the link icon (looks like a chain link) and pasting in the URL from the second step.
6. Add some sort of description, if you want, below the link.
7. Check off the “Links” category just to the right of entry form.
8. “Publish”

The shortcut way

If you’re used to using the Del.icio.us plugin for Firefox to post your links, there is something like that for WordPress called the WordPress Bookmarklet.

Right-click on this link, AZF2K Link, and “Add To Favorites” or your bookmarks. In Firefox or Safari you can also click and drag the link to your bookmarks toolbar.

Now, when you are on a page you’d like to link to, all you have to do is press the bookmarklet. You will then be sent to a Post page in Wordpress with the title and link already created for you. The only thing you have to do is choose the “Links” category.

I’ll post some links to give an idea of the format. The most important feature of a “Links” post is that it has a link that people can click on and not just an unusable URL.
