Congratulations Jen and Lester!!!! I’m so happy for you both on so many levels, I don’t think I can appropriately convey it in words. However, I can convey it in binary.

Congrats! Jen and Lester, you both look so happy (and for good reason).
I like that she and Lester have beanies. She’s already taking after dad! ;)
Best to the 3 of you!

  4. Norm Says:

    Awesome!

Congratulations! Dawn and I are very excited for you….She looks beautiful. Don’t worry the eyes can change color for up to two years. Riley’s were blue up until after her 2nd birthday when they changed to green/gray.

We are coming up the weekend of March 8th, maybe we can make a trip to see the baby….

What a gorgeous family you make! It looks like she has long, pretty fingers and bright blue eyes. I can’t wait to meet her.

We are so happy for you!!!

PS. I think you’re right about Michelle ;-)

Okay, I spent four hours racing up from Wall Street to the hartford Hospital. Got there with fifteen minutes to spare. Jen was breast feeding and Lester and Ray were talking about how cool it is to be a Dad. I end up holding my niece and she cries, her first really good baby cry, kicks her legs and farts. I am instantly in love. She is So incredibly beautiful, and quiet. Totally Wow. She had the biggest meal of her life while Ray and I were there. I hope she is not that competitive.

NOW, bout Michelle: I knew this, thats one of the reasons I will be marrying her. She called me up told me the babies weight and length and told me she is ready. I am so glad that she could be there for Jen and Les. Michelle Told me last night she got to watch Lester fall in love at first sight and that it was the most amazing thing she has seen.

I can’t tell you all how cool this is. I have had tears in my eyes since she was born. Being an uncle is so awesome. Watching the McGuire clan grow is world changing.

Meghan and I were at on pins and needles. We managed to only call twice, but countless times we checked the web, started at the phone… so excited. The growth, love and happiness of people who we love has such a profound effect on us. Just read the big feelings here; this is the good life, this is good people, this is why I feel so lucky to have crossed paths with all of you. Its why I’m so excited to meet Katherine and watch her grow; she’s destined to be another bright light like her family.

  8. Dawn Says:

What a beautiful looking family! Jen looks radiant, I hope I look that good after hours of labor. I wish we could have been there to meet the newest member of the family, but know there is lots of love pouring in from the west coast. I can’t wait for that family reunion 5-7 years from now, down in Disneyworld or on a cruise when we will all be together again with all our kids and our men and of course the ladies, having fun and creating more fabulous stories to tell each other when we’re old and retired down in the Keys (or where ever). Cause that’s the kind of Family that we are, we may be miles apart, but these friendships were ment to last. Again, Congratulations! to Jen and Lester, you guys are great and are gonna make great parents.

  9. Michelle Says:

What an amazing experience. Watching you two work together and being able to cheer you on, witnessing the miracle of life and love has made a lasting imprint on me. I am so glad to have been able to be there, offer ice chips, hugs and encouragement. You guys were such rockstars. Jen napped, smiled and joked through the whole process and Lester showered her with love and private jokes (something to do with Borat, I think!!) to keep her spirits up. You guys will no doubt be awesome parents. I look forward to watching Katherine grow up in the spirit of her parents.

(I think in my next life/ career I will be a great paparazzi for weddings and births, such fun)

  10. Jen Says:

I’ve finally been able to get to the computer. Thanks for all the love and I’m so blessed to have married into the best family ever. Dawn, you too can look that radiant with the miracle of an epidural. I was hesitant prior to the hospital but once there and in labor, it was the best option for me. It wasn’t painful (I’ve had blood drawn that hurts more) and I didn’t have any side effects. Some women feel a bit bruised in their back the next day, but I didn’t. The epidural actually let me sleep from midnight to 2am, even though I was having contractions every 3-4 minutes. The entire labor process was extremely positive and actually a great experience. I can’t thank you enough, Michelle, for rearranging your schedule to be with us. You complemented our team in all the right ways to make it a perfect labor. I can’t complain about anything. Thank you.

I always new Lester would be a great dad, but I think I underestimated him. At least a couple times a days he knocks my socks off. It is amazing how quickly he can calm Katherine down. He cleans, cooks, and still checks to make sure I’m feeling Ok.

She seems to be fussy 11pm to 5am. last night was very long. My milk isn’t in yet so I’m having a hard time keeping up with her hunger. The nurses said this was common with big babies. She then gets very worked up and doesn’t latch on. I really believe this will be a short term problem and we’ll find our way through it.

For now Lester and I are calling her Katherine. Previously, I had mentioned possible nicknames, but they don’t seem appropriate right now. The name Katherine is very strong and majestic to me which describes her perfectly. She was much bigger at birth than anticipated and I love her some much more than I could imagine. I think I expected a fragile newborn and I was blessed with a sturdy baby with tons of personality from the second she was born.

On a final note, Katherine played her first game of Settlers her first night home. At three days old she beat Uncle Drew and Daddy. That’s my girl!!

Congrats to two wonderful people! She is beautiful and I wish you all the best and love in the world. Jen thanks for everything you have done for me, even though you think its nothing. Enjoy your beautiful girl!
    Love,
    Michelle (in georgia)

  12. Norm Says:

    Jen,

when Dawn was feeding, the pump rented from the hospital was 10x better than the one we owned at home, Dawn referred to it as the the tractor pull of brest pumps. Anyway after a few weeks of attempting to feed, she relied heavily on the pump to get the milk going, once it was in, she has no problems with feeding the baby. on the plus side, Lester can spend times feeding the baby as well with the expressed milk.

    Just a thought….

  13. Benthe (Michelle's Mom) Says:

Words are so small and kind of lack the power to describe the miracle of love and nature; creating this little, yet big beautiful and perfectly put together baby. With long elegant fingers like her mother and the deep purposeful look of her father, holding her with the look of awe and wonder in his face; how did we create this. And you understand how small we are in the scheme of things. Congratulation Jen and Lester, she is adorable. I hope I get to see her for the wedding, else I will have to come over soon. Babies can never have to many extra “bedste-mor”, ask Michelle to explain that. I did e-mail Peter and Pernille the link to the pictures, she is due in about 5 weeks. They are looking forward to spending time with you this summer. Lots of love Benthe

  14. Josh Says:

Congratulations to you both!! She’s so beautiful, and I can’t tell you how thrilled I am for you both. I look forward to meeting her, hopefully sooner than October.
Lots of love to you all,
    Josh
